A TEAM of experts are set to patrol the UK’s seas for great white sharks after one was reportedly spotted close to a popular tourist beach.

Scientists from Ocearch are planning the expedition for September 2022, hoping to prove that great white sharks frequent British waters after the potential sighting at Goring-by-Sea in West Sussex.

Zoo welcomes first giant anteater baby in 85 years

This cute little pup is the first giant anteater to be born at Dudley Zoo, in Birmingham, for 85 years!

The baby – who doesn’t have a name yet – was born on 17 January and keepers say it is “healthy and alert”.

Its parents Lyra and Bubbles surprised keepers when they found out they had had a baby, but said it was “fabulous news”.

Endangered animals: Zoo teams up with ‘biobank’ to save animals from extinction

Paignton Zoo in Devon, is the latest organisation to team up with a charity, called Nature’s Safe, which cryogenically freezes genetic samples of animals.

So far, the charity has made a ‘biobank’ of frozen samples from around 80 different species at its laboratories.

Nature’s Safe is one of Europe’s first biobanks dedicated to preserving endangered animals in this way.

‘Cunning’ swimming rats ‘the size of cats’ sneaking through toilets to invade UK homes

Some are said to be “as big as cats” and now experts are warning people to rat-proof their houses before they invade.

Pest control expert Ian Helands warned: “I have had more call-outs than ever from homeowners who have heard a noise, looked down into their toilet only to find a giant rat.

“No-one is safe. Rats are excellent swimmers with bendy bones and can squeeze into the smallest of spaces.

MP who said eagles not welcome in constituency received funds from shooting estate

A Conservative MP who said eagles are not welcome in his constituency had his election campaign funded by a shooting estate, the Guardian can reveal.

The West Dorset MP, Chris Loder, caused outrage when he seemed to imply police should not be prioritising the investigation of the recent death of an endangered white-tailed eagle, found dead on an estate in his constituency.
