Although it is the combination of an admirable rewilding programme, three CFZ expeditions to neighbouring Tajikistan have gained a lot of of evidence for the continued existence of the indigenous Caspian Tiger population. What happens to them now? If these new introductions are a success then they will be diluted into the wider tiger population. Is this a good thing? A bad thing? Or just a thing? Depending who you believe, the Tsushima leopard cat, like the better known Iriomote cat, is either a distinct species or a sub species of the Asian leopard cat. Either way both of these creatures are critically endangered, and this latest piece of news from Tsushima could be interpreted to suggest that inbreeding on the island is taking its toll. The creatures have been isolated for at least 100,000 years since the island separated from the Korean Peninsula. I don’t know about you, but I find this stuff completely fascinating. JD

Wales seems to be the most likely place to see a big cat in the United Kingdom at the moment. I wonder why this is? JD

Lori Bowling was driving through Hinsdale County with her husband Bill on July 28 and she was looking out of the window attempting to spot wildlife when she saw a massive creature emerge from the woods.
