Once upon a time it appears that mouse if not all of the Mediterranean islands had their own subspecies of wildcat. These hover between near extinction and folklore; perfect examples of Cryptozoology in action. The Cretan wildcatcall my which as its name implies, comes from the island of Crete was rediscovered in 1996 but has been assumed to be near extinction. Now, a new study has shown quite a successful this species is; something which gives us all great hope for some of the other more cryptic Mediterranean wildcats. but what we really want to know is has the Minotaur survived?
