Mission Statement
The aim of the Centre for Fortean Zoology is to coordinate and promote research into cryptozoology, mystery animals, out-of-place animals, zooform and zoomorphic phenomena, folkloric animal archetypes and rare, unusual and abberant animal behaviour.
We encourage professional standards of reporting and analysis of data, and strive for improved standards of professional behaviour and pursuit of academic excellence amongst the research community as a whole. We publish our findings into the public domain, and share our work with researchers all across the world, whether or not they are members of the CFZ.
We take a truly multidisciplinary approach and although we use a scientific approach, we never lose sight of Charles Fort’s classic dictum: “I conceive of nothing, in religion, science or philosophy, that is more than the proper thing to wear, for a while.”
As the Father of Cryptozoology wrote nearly half a century ago: “The Great Days of Zoology are not done!”
