More on those Scottish big cats; in which people who should know better talk a load of bollocks
Friday 24th April 2026Puma-like’ big cat sighting reignites mystery of legendary beast roaming UK – Metro
There have been a load more media comments upon the recent sightings of giant black cats in Scotland. The lead story here is particularly egregious because it includes a photograph of the Kellas cat from Aberdeen Museum under a headline claiming it is a puma. Those of you who don’t know the Kellas cats were first identified by Mrs Di Francis 40 years ago who believed that these black animals, the size of a large domestic cat, were a new species, and equated them to the cait sidh of Celtic folklore. Eventually, depending on who you believe, they were either identied this complex introgressive hybrids between the Scottish wildcat and domestic cats, or simply a melanistic Scottish wildcat.
To show the size here is the picture of my late wife standing with a stuffed Kellas cat.

i have no doubt that they have indeed in the sightings of a Mike size big cast in various parts of Scotland. They are depressing the common these days all over the United Kingdom. But to describe this puma size creature as a Kellas cat is fairly stupid.
