From Sandra Howlett “An extremely large cat (possible a panther?) in Southeastern Morgan county …

Looks like a big tom cat stuck in a tree trying to figure out how to get back down . 14h. 47

JON SAYS: This is a very frustrating news story, and is sadly typical of quite a few that arrive on my desk these days. Morgan County is the name of 11 counties in the United States, with most named after Revolutionary War General Daniel Morgan. The most prominent Morgan County is in Ohio(13,802 pop., county seat McConnelsville), known for attractions like the Big Muskie Bucket and Wildcat Hollow. Other locations include Alabama, Tennessee, and Utah. Because it appears that the person who reposted this story lives in Alabama then it might seem indicative that this specimen of a domestic cat stuck in a tree comes from that state.

I describe because the domestic cat stuck in the tree, because the upper branches of this tree, which is where the Animal appears to be stuck, would seem to be far too flimsy to support the weight of a large predator. And because the animal has a visible tail, it precludes it being a bobcat or a lynx. There are accounts of Bobcat like animals with long tails but they are few and far between and have never been verified. When I was lost in Texas, Devin McAnally (The bloke who sparked off the Texas blue dog epidemic by shooting one on his property back in 2003) told me of one such creature.
