A peculiar spider in West Central Africa

A PECULIAR SPIDER IN WEST CENTRAL AFRICA

I found this unusual albeit brief story in the Taunton Courier and Western Advertiser of April 13th 1904; “An extraordinary monster spider, quite harmless, which spins a superb yellow silk, has been found in West Central Africa.” Unfortunately this is rather vague, could it mean the Congo,Nigeria, etc? I found this in an internet search: What spider is this? Spins a yellow silk, and it’s easily the largest I have ever seen here. : southafrica (reddit.com)
